eleQtron GmbH was founded on May 12, 2020 as a spin-off from the Quantum Optics Chair at the University of Siegen. The company says it develops and operates quantum computers and aims to provide quantum computing time for companies, institutions, and science. Its hardware is based on stored ions, with qubits controlled by microwaves through its MAGIC concept, short for Magnetic Gradient Induced Coupling.
The company presents itself as Germany’s first commercial quantum computing hardware manufacturer and states that it has sold systems to the German Aerospace Center (DLR) and to Forschungszentrum Jülich for integration into the Jülich supercomputer cluster. On its website, eleQtron lists headquarters in Siegen and a second office opened in Hamburg in 2023. It also states that it raised a €16 million seed investment in 2022 and a €57 million Series A round in 2026.
