planqc

planqc is a private quantum computing company founded in 2022 as a spin-off from the Max Planck Institute of Quantum Optics within the Munich Quantum Valley framework. The company says it develops digital quantum computers based on neutral atoms as qubits and covers hardware, quantum operating systems, applications, and quantum-inspired software. Its headquarters opened in Garching near Munich in 2024.

The company states that its quantum computers use neutral atoms trapped in optical lattices, and that it offers deployment models including on-premise systems, cloud-based computing, and HPC integration. On its timeline, planqc says it secured seed funding in 2022, won a €29 million DLR contract in 2023 to build a digital neutral-atom quantum computer, and closed a €50 million Series A round in 2024. It also says it launched the MAQCS project for a 1,000-qubit quantum computer for the Leibniz Supercomputing Centre and joined Germany’s Quantum Computing Competition in 2026 as coordinator of the LOGIQC consortium.
