ZuriQ says it is building a quantum computer with scalability as a core goal, using trapped-ion qubits that can move and connect. The company describes itself as an ETH Zürich spin-off building a utility-scale quantum computer with a native two-dimensional trap architecture.
According to its website, ZuriQ’s approach uses micro-fabricated chips with electrode arrays and static electromagnetic fields instead of oscillating radio-frequency fields. It says this enables ions to be trapped above the chip, rearranged in three dimensions, and transported across the chip as needed. The company also states that it has demonstrated a native 2D trapped-ion array and is pursuing a path toward larger-scale systems. On its homepage, ZuriQ says it has raised $30 million in capital and is backed by an international VC consortium.
